Massage Therapy Technique Descriptions

Aromatherapy Massage Massage therapy is beneficial on its own; however when its used in conjunction with essential oils, these two therapies can be synergistically more beneficial than when they are performed separately. Aromatherapy massage involves a massage treatment using essential oils. Aromatherapy massage works when essential oils are inhaled by the client, stimulating the olfactory gland which is a region of the brain closely linked with memory. When the fragrant oils are inhaled, a chemical message is sent to the brain which triggers a certain emotional response. Essential oils also have physical properties such as: analgesic, antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal, detoxicant, hypotensive, anti-inflammatory, etc depending on the specific oil used.

For example, Lavender is a widely known essential oil  that induces relaxation and emotional balance. Lavender also has specific chemical properties that reduce inflammation and is therefore good for burns. scrapes, acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

We offer a wide variety of top quality essential oil blends that our clients can choose from free of charge because we think it's that important!

Swedish Massage
currently represents the western "standard" for massage. Also commonly known as "therapeutic massage" swedish massage represents a general massage system that focuses on increasing circulation and promoting relaxation. Because swedish massage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system or the "rest and digest mode"  in the body it activates the body's own healing processes as it melts away tension and stress.

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of clinical massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. This technique uses some of the same movements and techniques as swedish massage, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, and myofacial release. The pressure will generally be more intense than swedish massage but should never hurt. The goal of deep tissue massage is to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure across the grain of the muscles. Deep tissue massage is a process of detection of stiff or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly applying pressure into these layers to affect change at the cellular level to improve muscle health, decrease feelings of tension and stiffness, and eliminate or manage pain.

Affecting change at the cellular layer of muscle, tendon, ligament, and fascia can be felt in some cases right away but in general take  4-6 visits spread out over a month's time. Maintaining tissue health is vitally important to eliminate or manage body tension, stiffness, and pain so bi-monthly or monthly visits are recommended once the initial complaint has been addressed.

Foot Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion.. Reflexology is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands with a premise that such work effects a physical change to the body. Reflexology has a profoundly relaxing effect on the nervous system and also helps maintain foot health by restoring and maintaining flexibility, circulation, and releasing tension in the foot's muscles, tendons, ligaments, and even bones.

Hot Stone Massage
is the ultimate, nurturing, healing massage. This profoundly relaxing and balancing treatment, based on ancient traditions, is now one of the most requested treatment specialties worldwide. Smooth, heated “placement stones” are placed strategically on the body, and “working stones” are used in a full body massage that affords many therapeutic benefits. The heat from the stones penetrates the body, inducing a deeply relaxed state and an almost magical release of muscle tension. The heated stones also draw toxins to the skin’s surface, promoting a purification process. Clients love this special treatment that offers them a deeper state of relaxation, maximum release of muscle tension and an enhanced feeling of well-being. Copyright © EarthStone

Having a massage does more than just relax your body and mind. There are specific physiological and psychological changes that occur, even more so when massage is viewed and used as a preventative, regular therapy and not an occasional indulgence.
